Betsy H. Newman joined the WRDC staff in August 2005 after working for eight years as an event manager for Conference Services, a division of University Extension, at Utah State University. During her tenure she collaborated with faculty and staff in the planning and development of programs geared toward youth, adults and seniors. In addition she was the project manager for the implementation of an event business management software program. This included developing and delivering staff training. Her experiences led her to write an article on the implementation process which was published in several trade publications including IAAM’s Facility Manager, ACCED’s Communiqué and Event Publishing’s Event Solutions. She served for three years as Chair of Scholarships & Endowments for the university’s Professional Employees Association and was recently elected to serve a two-year term as President of the Association. Ms. Newman’s sustainable development interests are in green entrepreneurship including cooperative organic farming and alternative energy sources. A native Ohioan, she has traveled and lived throughout the region for the past 16 years including stints in Washington, Alaska and Montana. She is the writer, editor and designer for the WRDC’s grant proposals, publications, promotional pieces and website.
