Dr. Maggard is National Program Leader for Rural Sociology in the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), United States Department of Agriculture. She provides overall leadership for programs that emphasize rural community, economic, and regional development. Responsible for research, education, and extension administration, her duties include planning, organizing, managing, and approving programs and projects of national and international scope and impact which are carried out by land grant universities and cooperating institutions. Dr. Maggard received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Muskingum College, a master’s degree in Sociology at Purdue University, and a doctorate in Sociology from University of Kentucky. She received the 2002 Ken Wilkinson Rural Policy Award from the Rural Sociological Society’s Rural Policy Interest Group, is the 2000-2001 Thomas L. Ford Outstanding Alumnae of the Department of Sociology, University of Kentucky, and received the 2006 Rural Sociological Society Excellence in Practice and Application award. Dr. Maggard serves on the WRDC BoD as the federal liaison.
