Dr. Cockett received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Oregon State University in 1983 and 1985, respectively. After completing her degrees, she went to the USDA, ARS U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska, as a Research Associate in the Breeding and Genetics unit, with advancement to Research Geneticist in 1987. She joined Utah State University as an assistant professor in 1990, was promoted to associate professor in 1993, and to full professor in 1996. Dr. Cockett is currently the Vice President for Extension and Agriculture and the Dean for the College of Agriculture at Utah State University. She is also a tenured Professor in the USU Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences. She has also served as the Interim Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and most recently as the Interim Provost. Cockett is Chief Editor for Animal Genetics and an editorial board member for Animal Biotechnology.
